2013 Meetings and Events Calendar

Gold Country Turners Meetings

1:30 p.m. on the FOURTH Wednesday of each month, except perhaps November and December as decided on a yearly basis.
With  any questions regarding attending, joining, lurking, peeking in the window -- whatever, email club president, Bill Juhl  or call him (530) 265-0203 
 If you are interested in joining us for learning, and enjoyable fellowship  give Bill a call.
  • The next Gold Country Woodturners meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 at 1:30 pm where Phil Bauer will be demonstrating doing segmented bowls that use a band saw for the pieces. 
  • We will be meeting at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on 111228 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley in the Tall Pines Cottage. Directions: Once on McCourtney Road drive past the office and main entry gate to Gate 4.  Drive through gate 4 and continue to back of the parking are to the main parking area to park.  Tall Pines Cottage is just past the main parking area.   A map is attached showing the location of the cottage.  
    NO NEED TO BRING A CHAIR. THERE WILL BE CHAIRS AT THE COTTAGE!

 May 22 … general regular meeting at 1:30pm  at Tall Pines Cottage— Phil Bauer will demonstrate segmented band saw bowls

  May 22   Park Avenue Student Showcase—6:30-8:00 pm

  May or June ____Painting Party to paint Tall Pines cottage.  Nancy will ramrod with Peter’s assistance.

 June 26  Regular Meeting  1:30pm at SUGAR PINE LODGE, Nevada County Fairground

      Demonstrator: Russ McAnulty – embellishing and piercing

  July 24  Workshop and Regular Meeting.  At Tall Pines Cottage.  
      1:00pm Pre-Fair turning workshop—Focus turning at the fair- Jerry Hall
       6:30 PM General meeting.  Chair:  Peter Voskes.   Demonstrator: Mike Snegg, turning hollow vessels. 

  August  7-11  Nevada County Fair

  August 28  Tool swap and Regular Meeting at Tall Pines Cottage
        5:00 pm  Tailgate tool swap in parking lot outside of Tall Pines Cottage
        6:30 pm  General meeting.  Demonstrator  -- Bill Juhl, Off-center Turning and Trembleur demo – 


More GCWT stuff coming in 2013.  
  • Regular meetings of course, April through October.  Each meeting is focused on learning usually with a demonstration.
  • Board meetings each month, the morning after the general meeting. 
  • Our target is 3-4 member workshops or "sawdust" sessions ... all or most of the day events, probably on Saturdays, dedicated to education and skill building for our members.  The intention is to offer a "smorgasbord" of options to serve needs of members at all levels of skill
  • Professional demonstrators.
  • Demonstrating at Nevada County Fair ...( August)
  • Club BBQ and Saturday workshop

  • Nor-Cal Woodturners (http://norcalwoodturners.org)  meets in Sacramento on the evening of the 4th Tuesday of each month.  We have a number of dual members and if you'd like to carpool down, call Bill Juhl (530/265-0203) or email  bjuhl44@gmail.com 
  • California Blacksmith Association Spring Conference.  April 4-6 in Placerville, CA  For all of you turners interested in making your own tools, this could be of interest.   details here
  • Utah Woodturning Symposium.  May 16-18.  The Utah Woodturning Symposium continues with top professionals from all over north America and the world -- over 80 demonstrators teaching in a friendly, informal learning environment. . details here
  • Woodturners of Olympia Symposium.   July 27, Lacy Washington.   This annual event this year features John Jordan and Jack Wayne.  Four days of classes with John Jordan are scheduled following the Symposium.   Details here.
